classic book hahaha i just picked it up randomly from the shelves of the fictional parts of geylang east library. suddenly i have more faith in delving into better fiction besides enid blyton and ive realised why people stopped reading famous five ahahaha and i just realised it was that obscure film with leonaardo di caprio and now i am going to look for the film altho ive learnt that films kind of destroy the built in images yu originally had for the characters in the book. there were so many random references to things that i found quite familiar.

the whole concept of thinking in the author's minds was so refreshing like admittedly some of his crazy ideas and games he played i do that too and it was. refreshing to realise that other pple do it too hahaha id like to think he's an only child too.

hahaha i shall post excerpts tho i was such a thrilling excitement someparts were quite amusing not in a slapstick kind of way but when yu imagine it its ah. haha.

"As I became sleepy I started to fantasize. I imagined the train was a space ship and I was en route to some distant planet.
I don't know if I'm alone in doing this kind of thing. It isn't something I've ever talked about. The fact is, I've never grown out of playing pretend, and so far there are no signs that I ever will.
I have one quite carefully worked-out night-time fantasy that I'm in a kind of high-tech race. The race takes place over several days, even a week and is non-stop. WHile I sleep my vehicle coneinutes on auto-pile speeding me towarsd the finish line. The auto-pilot thing is the rationalization of how i can be in bed while I'm having the fantasy. Making it work in such a logical way is important - it would be no good fantasizing that the race was in a Formula One car, because how coul dI go to sleep in that? Get real."

By the time I feel asleep, my scanners were detecting life- forms on the surface of a distant planet. could have been jupiter. it had the same kind of cloud patters. like a tie dye t shirt"

and all this happens as the plot continues to unfold and there is tons of aaction going on like he uses these to explain what he does when he is stoning like walking from one point to another. hahaha.

" I had a tiny lizard on my hand. It was about three inches long, with enomous eyes and translucent skin. id reached out and picked it up. instead of wriggling away as i'd expected, the lizard had casually rearranged itself on my hand. suprised by its audacity, i let it sit there - even though it maeant keeping my hand in an unnatural position"

my attention was distracted by two guys running up the beach, whopping and shouting as they came.
'man!' whooped one of them, thats some. .. storm!"

"americans" i whispered to the lizard.

"i held up the lizard"
wow! is it like dead
etc etc. etc.

a couple of seconds later a blistering bolt of lightning crackled over the sea. after it was gone. sammy said in an awestruck voice
most totally excellent dude! zeph quickly followed it up with
like totally outrageous, compadre!

i opened my mouth, then hesittated. 'excellent dude'
i muttered thoughtfully.

they were harvard students.
zeph explained, pulling the knots out of his tangled blond locks.
'europeans think all americans are stupid, so we act stupid to confirm your prejudices. then we reveal ourselves as intelligent, and by doing so, subvert the prejudice more effectively that we would with an immedate barrage of intellect - which only causes confusion and, ultimately resentment."
Really? I said, genuinely impressed. Thats so elaboarte.

im bored.

the plot is cool.

taken from somewhere.

The Khao San Road, Bangkok — first stop for the hordes of rootless young Westerners traveling in Southeast Asia. On Richard's first night there, in a low-budget guest house, a fellow traveler slashes his wrists, bequeathing to Richard a meticulously drawn map to "the Beach."
The Beach, as Richard has come to learn, is the subject of a legend among young travelers in Asia: a lagoon hidden from the sea, with white sand and coral gardens, freshwater falls surrounded by jungle, plants untouched for a thousand years. There, it is rumored, a carefully selected international few have settled in a communal Eden.
Haunted by the figure of Mr. Duck — the name by which the Thai police have identified the dead man — and his own obsession with Vietnam movies, Richard sets off with a young French couple to an island hidden away in an archipelago forbidden to tourists. They discover the Beach, and it is as beautiful and idyllic as it is reputed to be. Yet over time it becomes clear that Beach culture, as Richard calls it, has troubling, even deadly, undercurrents.
Spellbinding and hallucinogenic, The Beach is a look at a generation in their twenties, who, burdened with the legacy of the preceding generation and saturated by popular culture, long for an unruined landscape, but find it difficult to experience the world firsthand.

ill type more excerpts when i feel like it.
